GTBank online transfer

GTBank online transfer is by far the most convenient means to send money to anyone. You can decide to make an online transfer either through the official website or by using the GTWorld mobile application.

The first method which involves using the official website to make an online transfer is often called the internet or online banking. However, the second method which involves using mobile application to make online tranfer is called mobile banking.

The naming might sound off because both methods require the use of an internet connection. So why call one internet banking and the other mobile banking? Well, I understand if you aren’t comfortable with the names.

The fact is, you’re right. That said, the naming is done to differentiate both methods.

Any device that can access the internet through a browser, as well as have the provision to input characters from a keyboard is capable of internet banking. Therefore, the first method deserves the name internet banking.

Consequently, you can use the second method only on a mobile device. You can’t use the mobile app on laptops.

Mobile banking is a subset of the internet banking. It is therefore confined to the bank’s mobile application. You can find the mobile application on Apple Store and Google Play Store for iOS and Android users respectively. It has thus earned its name; mobile banking.

In this article, I will explain in details how you can make an online transfer using both methods. By the time you’re done reading this article, you may even decide to ditch the USSD code (*737#) method and stick to the online methods because it isn’t as difficult as some claim.

1. Internet Banking

GTBank offers the internet banking service as a means to transfer funds from your account to any other bank account in the country by using their official website.

To access the website, you must have a browser installed on your PC, phone or whichever device it choose to use.

First and foremost, you need to enroll for this service by visiting one of their branches. Once you get to the bank, inform the personnel on the helpdesk that you want to enroll for internet banking. This service is free of charge.

If you don’t already have an account with GTBank, you’ll need to open one. To save you some stress, make sure you have an active email address before going to the bank. The reasons why you need an active email address will be given as you read further.

Now, upon requesting an enrollment for GTBank internet banking, the personnel at the service desk will give you a form. Ensure you fill it appropriately. If you need assistance in filling the form, speak to the customer care rep. They will help you with any explanation.

After filling and submitting the form to the bank, GTBank will send a user ID and password to your email address. It is important to keep this email address active because it plays a major role in password recovery and account monitoring.

To activate the internet banking service, you must change your initial user ID and password.

Note: DO NOT save your login details on your browser. I once attended a cyber security class where we taught how to remotely harvest someone’s passwords from their browser. Since then I never advice anyone to save their passwords on their browsers. This could potentially compromise your security status.

For safe keeping, the best way to save passwords is to write it down on your diary or a book only you can gain access to.

2. Mobile Banking

Mobile banking is very popular amongst youths these days. One reason for its popularity is the convenience it brings. And you don’t need to type in your login credentials each time you want to utilise the mobile banking service.

You can login by using your biometric. When this feature is activated all you have to do in place your registered finger on the biometric scanner located on your phone to login to the mobile app

I will give the app a four star rating for the implementation of this awesome feature. As you can tell already, I wasn’t initially a fan of the GTBank online transfer service and I still have my reservations towards this service. That said, I have learnt to accommodate it because going the bank is not an option to me.

So the GTBank has two mobile banking apps. The first is called the GTBank mobile app and its sibling is called the GTWorld app.

You can download these applications from App Store and Google Play Store for iOS and Android users respectively. I’m not quite acquainted with GTWorld mobile app. It was the first mobile application launched by the bank.

However, the GTBank mobile app is my daily driver. It satisfies a majority of my requirements. And it is designed to provide you with convenience. It is very easy to use.

GTBank Transfer Charges

I will say this again, so you aren’t surprise when GTBank charge you a fee for the transaction. GTBank online transfer via the mobile banking service attracts a total fee of ₦52.50 for each transaction above ₦50,000.

It is an infinitesimal amount when compared to the stress you’ll undergo if you decide to visit the bank to make a tranfer.

The bank will deduct ₦52.50 from your account as soon as the transaction is successful. If you do not have up to ₦52.50 left in your account less the amount you want to transfer, the transaction will not be successful.

Hence, you must have the ₦52.50 left in your account minus the amount you intend to transfer for the transaction to be successful.

Say for instance you want to make a transfer of ₦100,000, you must have atleast ₦100,52.50 in your account for the transfer to be successful.

In January 1, 2021, the Central Bank of Nigeria revised charges on electronic transfers. The new policy states that transfers below ₦10,000 will attract a maximum charge of ₦10. While transfers between ₦10,000 and ₦50,000 will be charged ₦25, and transfers above ₦50,000 attracts a ₦50 charge.

However, most banks add an extra ₦2.50 to ₦3 charge as SMS charges for each transaction.
